All you need to know about Vauban street
From the wild point of Sainte-Barbe to the historic Gambetta
, in the heart of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Vauban
is one of those axes that connects nature to the city. It offers a multiple face, more residential in the north and more commercial in the south. Its tranquility contrasts with the bustle of the pedestrian streets to which it opens. Its name pays homage to the engineer and military architect Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, to whom we owe, among many buildings in our territory, Fort Socoa in Ciboure. Vauban
, parallel to the seafront, faces it on the magnificent bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz. It is the ideal starting point for walks on the coast, and in particular on the Pointe de Sainte-Barbe where an orientation table makes it easy to spot the Vauban work.
Shops and services
Vauban street in Saint-Jean-de-Luz is essentially residential, especially in its northern part, towards Sainte-Barbe. There are, however, some practical services, such as a dry cleaning service and medical offices. Very quiet, Vauban street however benefits from the immediate proximity of the shops of its adjacent streets, in particular Gambetta street on which it ends and Saint-Jacques street, which it crosses a little further north. Small supermarkets are thus less than 100 meters away, as are local shops and services such as butchers, hairdressers and cafes. Clothing and decoration shops are also numerous nearby, but not present in the street itself. Note the proximity of the pediment, linked to Vauban street by allées Perkain.
