Where is Anglet in France?

In the Atlantic Pyrenees, in the southwest of the country. Between the mouth of the Adour and the Sutar plateau, Anglet is a link between the Landes and the Basque Country.

What to visit in Anglet?

The Saint-Léon church with superb stained glass windows and hosting various exhibitions each year generally appeals to its visitors. Lovers of Basque heritage never tire of the architecture and typical facades seen over the alleys of Anglet.

A remarkable building listed as a Heritage, the Villa Beatrix Enea is an essential player in the promotion of local and national contemporary art. Recently renovated, it now has artist residences, in addition to the public reception and exhibition halls. Meetings and workshops are held there throughout the year.

There is a somewhat unusual place in Anglet, it is the Convent of the Bernardines. The founder of the congregation of nuns who occupied it was beatified a few years ago. The chapel dates from 1855 and adjoins an astonishing cemetery of sand tombs decorated with crosses in scallops. The convent also houses a so-called primitive chapel made of straw and sand as well as a small museum. Our Lady of Refuge includes another chapel, a stele and the tomb of the founder of the place. The history of the place and the personality of the founding father are certainly worth a visit.

What to do in Anglet?

There are almost all types of leisure in Anglet. From golf to bowling, from the ice rink to the tree-top adventure course, from the horse club to the escape game.

Water sports and activities naturally occupy an important place, in particular thanks to the long maritime facade available to the city. Canyoning, rafting, pirogue, hydrospeed, paddle, diving, etc.

Finally, the Izadia Ecological Park makes us discover the biodiversity of the coastline through a discovery trail and a playful setting.

What events take place in Anglet?

From March, the patronal festivals awaken Anglet by offering exhibitions, theater, shows, sporting challenges, pelota tournament and outdoor meals for a week.

In July and August, two shows by Force Basque take place at the Kiosque des Sables d'Or while the Théâtre des Chimères organizes readings and shows in the Pignada forest.

An original designer market is set up in Place des Cantons on the first Tuesday of each month.

The "Musical beaches", "Electro sunset" with DJ and "Latin’ summer days "occupy your evenings.

In August, Anglet hosts the French Beach Volley Championship and a Beach Rugby Festival.
